Post by: creepster on April 14, 2009, 07:07:58 PM
"Funker Vogt - Thanatophobia
Requested by User not found."

how is that possible?

Probably because I messed something up. Thanks for the heads up, I'll look into it.

Fixed on the development version of the site (which will be pushed to the active version in a week or two.)

It's just a display issue, doesn't impact the request system.

i was just wondering if it is possible to request songs as an unregistered user and would display it like that

Yeah, that's what I was worried about. It wasn't though :)

I tried to request Angels & Agony today, the band name is there but when I clock on it then there are no songs/albums to choose from.

I knew someone would find a bug eventually. I'll look into it, surely an issue with the & character.

Also another similar problem, there are no tracks to choose from for Unter Null (there is an album mentioned, but no songs).

Yeah, there's a few missing mp3s on the new server. I will clean it up soon. Thanks again :)

Tried to request "let's go dark" by god module today, but alas, no matter how many times I clicked the track, nothing happened.  :(

requesting windows mobile/opera mini friendly music database...tapping on a track does nothing and thus makes it a bit hard for me to request a song without standing up from my bed...and yes, i know, im lazy

forum posting works here aswell, but the request function doesnt work and the banner is cut in half...

Request system requires javascript, any non-js browser will fail.
Title: Re: request system
Post by: Mendoza on August 19, 2009, 08:10:59 PM
mkay, gonna get my opera mini java-ready.
other than that, id like to see some "vote for this request"-button, so you can add your vote to a request to increase its priority, which then should substract a request from your current request-balance. example: request by someone, i click vote and loose one request, and the priority of the song increases by factor two or something.

I've actually considered that, but I thought it might be a bit complex for people to immediately understand, especially since you can't see the current play order of requests and sub requests are prioritized anyway

I might have just missed it, but the song I requested: Unheilig - Feuerengel, was cleared out recently, doesn't show on the history, but I don't think it played.  I think it was still queued around 11 CST, but can't say for sure.  There was another song queued, but I don't remember what it was, also cleared out.

Did it play? Anyone remember hearing either?

Icons such as these (http://www.clubic.com/api/forum/img/up_on.gif) (http://www.clubic.com/api/forum/img/down_on.gif) (with different colors, these are meant for a white background) would be easy enough to understand imho.

Yeah, but the question is, what do they mean? Prioritize this request? I like this song? I like this user? There is already quite a bit of functionality on the main page, I just wonder if people will understand the concept and/or does it make any sense in the grander scheme of the system.

i think people should understand it if the line depicting the thumbs-up/thumbs-down icons includes "do you like this song?"

if people do not understand it, then they are too dumb to begin with and should not be on the computer but gtfo
if we're gearing everything to the lowest level, then we might as well go back to "ugh, zoot likes *grunt*"
Title: Re: request system
Post by: Shirow on November 09, 2009, 12:46:07 PM
Well yeah but what does that mean then for the site? The original suggestion was to let people prioritize requests - would it be immediately obvious that this was happening? Is that functionality even worthwhile? Should it override subscriber priority? etc etc..

At the end of the day - does it add a function that serves any real purpose - my gut feeling is 'no'
Title: Re: request system
Post by: Jib on November 09, 2009, 01:02:15 PM
Don't include any purpose to it.  Add it to the site so people that like clicking on things will feel like they are contributing.

I don't support the idea of prioritizing requests. Just because then we would not have a REQUEST system, but something more like a hit chart. Also I think it would be rude to dissuade someone else's request for a song. And correct me if I'm wrong, but this seems to be the opposite to the point of the entire request system - any registered users can make one song request and enjoy it as it plays.

If you want some more advanced rights for subscribed users then maybe those users can have 2 requests a day, or something similar.

subscribers already DO have 2 requests per day

Is it possible, or even reasonable, to be able to suspend a request?  Sometimes I know I'm likely going to miss the request because I'll be away from desk or whatever, and my choices now are: chance missing it or cancel it and try again later.

Say my song was up next, it could be passed over if requests are pulled until I unsuspend it, at which it takes it's place back in the queue. I don't think the songs should be suspended indefinitely, maybe only delay the request until the following time they are pulled or until requests are reset, or something along those lines.

I'm with you. Can't tell you how many times i've missed a request and since there isn't any way to determine when it will be played i am loathe to cancel and start over again. Though it might just have to come with the territory cuz it sounds like it might be a bit of work to do. If possible at all that is.

Cancellation is the only option really. If you suspend it, when do I play it? If you're a subscriber, it already gets priority so if you put it back into the queue, it's likely to be played at the next request period anyway.

Hi.

Just requested V2A - Stahl-Tanz.  It queued as normal, then the status changed to "you have already requested a song today", without playing.

possible bug? with the request priority system, I had made a request for Kavorkian death cycle-how to nuke heaven, that being the only request in the que for sometime, then creepster came and requested I cry by Rottersand, she being the subscriber got priority, thats fine im cool with that, but the system said i have submitted a request already, I cry was played but how to nuke heaven was not, so a possible bug where a subscribers request cancels out a non subscribers request may exist. god speed and youll pay for that creepster

The priority wouldn't cancel out a request, doesn't work like that.

I'll look at that track but with the changes I made, track name should be irrelevant now. Keep the posts coming, I'll keep looking.

Hey just noticed that a request - Ascii.Disco: Jack your body to the beat - got pulled but not played. It was a request made before mine, both were pulled at the same time, but only mine played.

i do not understand what you mean
the index page shows that your request is still in the queue to be played sometime in the future (Ascii.Disko - Jack Your Body To The Beat Requested by Drewthetexan)

i am currently listening to JUNO REACTOR - Conquistador II (1:26 EST)

edit: on an unrelated side note - i have seen that not all requested songs are played subsequently every time, they can get split into sets (not sure what will determine that though)

I see how this is confusing. greenplastic had requested the Ascii.disko song. Then sometime later I requested virtual space industrial  - holy children. A little later, both songs were cleared from the queue but only mine played. I felt bad, so I requested the ascii.disko song again.

NO! I like the request system. If there are glitches then, on the grand scheme of things, these are minor annoyances at best. Please keep the request system - a mostly functional system is way better than no system at all.

Please note - I just popped a request in the pipeline in protest :)

I was just kidding, it's just really hard to track these small issues, it seems to be a fairly rare occurrence and half the time, I spend a lot of time investigating and find out the song did in fact play :p
Title: Re: request system
Post by: diseased on March 17, 2010, 11:13:24 AM
I listen to the station while working. The chances of me being distracted and not tuned in when a request plays is extremely high. I figure a lot of people will be in a similar position.

Hey Shirow, not able to make requests. Clicked on at least a dozen and in addition to not registering, when the play[preview] button is clicked, i get this...

Temporarily allow http://digitalgunfire.com/assets/flash/wimpy/wimpy_button.swf#!flashvars#theFile=clips/1340.mp3&wmod
e=transparent&buttonStyle=square&autoplay=no&loopMe=no&playingColor=362A45&arrowColor=00FF00&wimpyRe

(<OBJECT>, application/x-shockwave-flash)

And no worries, i'm not gonna give you shizz about not being able to hear a request. There are too many other things in life queuing up to piss me off about now. i just hope it helps if there is a problem beyond mine.
