I have the gamecube and just recently my boyfriend bought us the PS2 so for now we have been playing that, we would like to get the PS3 but may have to wait a while for the price to go down.

I'm building a $1000 PC, why would I ever want to get a console? Keyboard and mouse is better for most games, if I want a gamepad I can use an XBox 360 controller, I can upgrade my hardware, and I have much more games to choose from, and my TV is smaller than my monitor.

If you've been living under a rock (or don't follow gaming news every hour of your life), then you may not have heard that Sony has delayed the PS3 in PAL territories (pretty much everywhere but the US and Japan) to March 2007.

Joystiq rounds up responses:

 Quote:
"All the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't put this disastrous mess of broken egg back together again" -Rob Fahey, EuroGamer

"In a few years' time, this might look like the beginning of the end ... unless they can come up with something remarkable to stop the rot." -Bobbie Johnson, Guardian Unlimited

"This is pretty disappointing news for PlayStation fans as well as for retailers, who have been gearing up for this launch for some time now." -British retailer HMV, quoted in a Scotsman.com article

"We were never anticipating a substantial amount of PS3 in 2006. We expect to see some mitigation of profit impact with a strong line-up of other products now in free supply." -Sources close to British retailer Game, quoted in a Times Online article

"Sony Europe said when they first announced the PS3 simultaneous world wide launch 'This is an exciting first for Europe, and is a huge endorsement and vote of confidence in the strength of the European market and its importance globally,' so with them now going back on this promise we can assume that they assume Europe to be 3rd rate, behind Japan & USA" -UK Technology blog Tech's Message

"Sony have got a lot to lose from having the PS3 delayed: not just poor figures for 2006, but also a loss in market share as parents buy their kids XBoxes for Christmas, and a boost for HD-DVD which looks set to get to market far quicker than its arch-rival." -UK blogger Chris Doidge

"The previously announced PlayStation 3 shipment forecast of 6 million units globally within the fiscal year ending 2007 is not changed, suggesting that Sony wasn't expecting to sell any units in the PAL territories." -UK tech site Pocket Lint

"Can anyone else hear a lone church bell clanging mournfully in the background...?" -Yahoo Video Games UK

yea its pretty shity news.

The PS3 has some pretty great stuff behind it, if it can take off... you know they have something when all the people are still ok with waiting.

thing is here, all this delay is potentially helping out the end user anyway.

HD TVs are coming down in price and going up in size. and HDMI has finally been resolved (1.3).

meaning people buying these consoles...that plan to take advantage of it capabilitys that is, that haven't bought the TV yet, can get their hands on something more worthy now.

I don't see the PS3 being as dominant on the market as the PSX and PS2 have been with all the issues they've been hitting.

I see it being a solid gaming platform that gets a big, well-entrenched fan base, but it looks all but certain that Nintendo and MS are going to dethrone Sony for this generation.

I'll second that.

Nintendo is going to make a major jump back into the pack this time around...not sure if it'll trump MS...but it would be nice to see.

I'll start this post off by telling you that I am a Sony fan boy.  Now that that is out of they way I wanted to comment on Page's post:

If Nintendo manages to be a dominant force this console generation it is going to bring a 'Revolution' to the gaming scene.  The gaming markets have always been driving by CPU power and graphics.  I see Nintendo's Wii being in a different category as Microsoft and Sony, it doesn't have the power to compete head on.  The Wii is a different class of gaming.

P.S. I am going to buy a Wii after the PS3

Jib, my point exactly. Its not the same class. it's power vs content.

Even if Wii doesn't gain much market share, it will force the industry to rethink their stratagies... spend more time on content.
